During the current crisis in Haiti, the State Department has used social media and technology to get donations, volunteers, celebrities all involved in the effort to help the people there.

There are two stories that caught my attention. The first is how the State Department, which was behind the effort that raised $8 million, so far, for the people of Haiti.

The second is about Jared Cohen, the youngest member of the State Department's planning team. This 27 year-old is the guy who kept Twitter available to Iranians during protests earlier this year, now he's deeply involved with the SMS donation via cell phone.
